1. Select Monitor and then Feeds in the Dropdown menu or from the list to the left if you’re already in the monitoring section.
2. Click on the New Feed button.
3. Give your feed a name which is purely for your own reference and then add the URL for the relevant RSS Feed. For assistance with locating a relevant RSS Feed, please see this page. Also, if a message appears to advise that your RSS Feed is not valid, you can check this using an RSS Feed validation site and, if there are issues, look to put the Feed through a site such as FeedBurner which should address the issues before putting the Feed back into BrandManager. 4. Select the Save button for the details to be saved and the system to start pulling content from the RSS Feed into the dashboard.
5. Once this is done, you can choose to post updates as and when or, you can set up an RSS Autoposter so that updates made to the RSS Feed are automatically posted out to your social channels as required. To do this, first click on the RSS Feed in the list to the right.
6. Next, select the New Auto Post button.
7. You will first need to add basic settings, so check the RSS Feed being displayed is the one you want to set the Autoposter up for.
8. Next select the social services you wish to have the RSS Feed post to automatically.
9. Select how often the system should check for updates from the RSS Feed.
10. Next, you can choose whether these posts are sent at regular intervals by choosing the Scheduled option or whether they’re added to your Drafts view or a Queue.
11. Select the maximum amount of updates to be pulled from the Feed for auto-posting. Please Note: this will be affected by the amount of updates that have been added to the Feed within the frequency time and whether you set the auto-poster to post repeats or only post new entries.
12. You can set whether or not you want to be notified when posts from the RSS Feed are sent out in which case you’ll be sent an email when a new posts is sent out.
13. By selecting whether a Feed is Active or Paused, you can temporarily disable an auto-poster without having to delete the settings you’ve added. You can save your settings now otherwise, please see the Advanced Options below.
14. You can select whether the system will look to post out existing posts which were added to the RSS Feed previous to it being added to BrandManager or whether only new posts are brought through. Please note that the system generally only picks up posts that are less than two weeks old.
15. You can also set what information is added to the posts that will be sent out.
* The default option for Title and Link will mean that the title of the update is added to the body of the post in BrandManager followed by a link to the update itself. This option is best for Twitter as the character count will be kept low however, it is also useful if you want a link preview to be included in the post. Please note that Twitter does not support link previews.
* Title and Description will include the title and the text from the update in the body of the post on BrandManager. This option is better for sites which allow posts with high character counts, eg. Facebook and LinkedIn.
* Description only will include just the text from the update in the body of the post.
* No title means that only a link to the update will be added to the body of the post.
* Title without link means that just the title of the update will be added to the body of the post.
16. Select whether you want posts to be repeated once they have already been brought through once.
17. You can also set whether you want the system to send posts in order of newest first or if you’d prefer the system post updates in a random order.
18. Text you add to the ‘Prefix’ text box will be included at the beginning of every post brought through from the RSS Feed. Text you add to the ‘Suffix’ text box will be included at the end of every post.
19. By adding words into the inclusion or exclusion filter, you can control which posts from an RSS Feed are posted out. So, for example, if you’ve set up an RSS Feed which might include mentions of a competitor, you can add their name into the Exclusion filter and then, any updates which include their name will not be posted. To ensure that only posts which include certain words, so for example your brand name, add this into the Inclusion filter.
20. You can also add your Google Analytics details to track links back to your site if your RSS Feed is coming from your blog or similar.
21. Once you’ve added your settings, click Save and the Autoposter will get to work.
